International Business Law & International Matters

We have established a network of contacts throughout the United States and most of the Middle East, with a presence in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and Beirut, Lebanon. For more than twenty years, the firm has handled international business law, transnational and international matters, mostly with parties and issues concerning the Middle East and Asia.

Throughout those years, the firm dealt with various legal issues, conflict of law situations, and jurisdictional disputes between the Middle Eastern and U.S. legal systems. This experience gave us extensive knowledge of how to approach those issues.

Contracts

We have experience drafting contracts that provide some assurance they’re binding in foreign jurisdictions and accepted as "legally enforceable promises." As with the U.S. legal system, European and Middle Eastern laws provide remedies if a promise is breached and recognize the performance of a promise as a duty. However, the scope, implementation, and extent of those remedies are different.

Contracts also arise when a duty does or may come into existence because of a promise made by one of the parties. For instance, to be legally binding as a contract under U.S. laws, a promise must be exchanged for adequate consideration. That statement is not the case in some of the Middle Eastern systems.

Likewise, in the U.S. legal system, adequate consideration is a benefit or detriment which a party receives which reasonably and fairly induces them to make the promise/contract. It is not a requirement in other systems. We have helped our clients negotiate, draft, execute and implement a wide array of contracts involving real estate, businesses, personal property, and intellectual property.
